On February 17th, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, aka the Stimulus Plan. This law includes tax credit incentives for homeowners to make energy-efficient home improvements, like energy efficient Thermolock windows, in 2009 and 2010.
The tax credit is effective for products purchased and installed in 2009 and 2010 in the taxpayer's principal residence.
The amount of tax credit is 30% of total qualifying purchases per household, up to a maximum $1500 credit across all qualifying products. Installation of the qualifying products is not included in the tax calculation.
These tax credits are available for products at the highest efficiency levels, which typically cost much more than standard products. Both windows u-value and SHGC must be at or below .30.
New construction does not qualify. Modifications are to existing homes only.
To obtain the tax credit, the taxpayer needs the following;
- The purchase receipt for the qualifying products from the dealer, not including installation.
- The manufacturer's certification statement, available here
- The NFRC labels from the windows (not required, but handy)
- IRS Tax form 5695, which will be available in late 2009, early 2010.
Thermolock offers a wide range of products that meet and exceed the prescribed criteria for this tax credit. Please see your authorized Thermolock dealer for further details.
